Thirty years ago — 1992

Brooks Hospital in Dunkirk is now a smoke-free facility in compliance with new standards issued by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Smoking will not be permitted anywhere within the hospital building and this no smoking policy applies to all hospital patients, visitors, volunteers, employees, medical staff and other guests. A designated outdoor smoking area has been established.

Forty years ago — 1982

At a recent meeting of the Dunkirk Urban Renewal Agency, the former Graf Furniture building at 319 Central Ave. was sold by the agency to James Andrews, owner of “Olde Colony Furniture” at 320 Central Ave. (across the street). Andrews bought the Graf building for $70,000. He said he plans to make improvements to the structure and use it once again to sell furniture. He also plans to keep his other store open.

Fifty years ago — 1972

The Calendar Girl of the Month is Sharon Harford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Harford, 69 Main St., Silver Creek. She is a senior at Silver Creek Central School.
