Thirty years ago — 1992

David Manachtan, a 1980 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, has been selected to appear in “Uptown Cabaret ’92,” an annual AIDS fund-raising event in Los Angeles on Feb. 15. Mr. Manachtan has starred as Rudy in Martin Sherman’s “Bent” and as Arnold Beckoff in Harvey Fierstein’s “Widows and Children First!” “Uptown Cabaret ’92” will mark his Los Angeles stage singing debut. While at Cassadaga Valley, he sang with the high school chorus, Valley Minstrels and appeared in school musicals.

Forty years ago — 1982

The Point Breeze Hotel on Lake Shore Road in Angola is a popular spot year ’round. Recently purchased by Bob Schmitt and Associates, the hotel is located on Lake Erie and includes 15 acres of beaches and parks. Built in the 1800s, the hotel at one time served as an orphanage. It was purchased in 1939 by Florence and Stanley Nowak, who turned the facility into a popular beach resort and featured what some believe is the best fish fry in Western New York.

Fifty years ago — 1972

A tenants association is being formed at the Court Apartments housing project off Lamphere Street in Dunkirk.
