Thirty years ago — 1992

The Chautauqua County Department of Social Services (DSS) recommended renting some 20,000 square feet of office space from Graf Realty Co. — virtually its entire two-story building at 1 Liberty Square on Central Avenue in Dunkirk — to consolidate its north county operations in one site. The only part of the Liberty Square building which would not be occupied by the county would be the federal Social Security office.

Forty years ago — 1982

Judy Turk, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Turk Sr. of Mezzio Road, Forestville has been named Student of the Week at Forestville Central School. A senior, she is a member of the National Honor Society, yearbook staff, girls’ volleyball, track and basketball teams and the Varsity Club. Judy plans to attend SUNY Fredonia to pursue a career in art education.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Support for a plan to open branch offices of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Dunkirk and Jamestown was voiced today by Legislator Anthony DiRusso (D-Dunkirk), chairman of the county legislature’s agencies committee, which will be dealing with the proposal.
