Thirty years ago — 1993

On the evening of his assassination, President Abraham Lincoln was carried to the Ford Theater in a carriage that later belonged to Dr. Francis Brewer of Westfield. When Dr. Brewer sold the carriage, its lanterns were removed and became the property of Anthony Militellon of Westfield. The two lanterns, along with several documents which prove their authenticity, have been loaned to the McClurg Museum for the month of June.

Forty years ago — 1983

A Perrysburg man confined to a wheelchair set a precedent recently by being the first handicapped student to participate in and complete the State Senate Sessions Assistants Program in Albany. Darrel T. Seeley, 24, of North Road, Perrysburg, recently completed a semester as a legislative intern in the office of State Sen. John E. Flynn (R-Yonkers) chairman of the senate select committee on the disabled. “This experience has taught me things that couldn’t have been learned through textbooks,” Seeley said. “It’s an excellent program. I’m pleased that Jamestown Community College gave me this opportunity.”

Fifty years ago — 1973

Scott Ethan Victor, son of Dr. and Mrs. Arnold B. Victor of 16 Birchwood Drive, Fredonia, celebrated his Bar Mitzvah recently at Temple Beth El in Dunkirk.
