Thirty years ago — 1993 Joyce Johnson has retired after serving 25 years as the librarian at the Cassadaga Branch Library. Mrs. Johnson says she’s planning to be the new village library’s most faithful patron. The new facility is nearing completion and plans call for it to be open by mid-June. A retirement party honoring Mrs. Johnson will be held on June 8 at the Stockton Hotel. The event will be co-hosted by the Mary E. Thirty years ago — 1993 The Monday Evening Literary Club celebrated its 100th birthday recently with dinner and remembrances of days gone by at Haus Talblick in Gowanda. The program, “M.E.L.C. Through the Decades,” featured skits for each decade, highlighting significant changes that took place in America. Thirty years ago — 1993 Lucas M. Czekanski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Czekanski of Dunkirk received his Eagle Scout award during ceremonies at St. Hyacinth’s lyceum. A member of Boy Scout Troop 254, Lucas is a junior at Dunkirk High School. For his Eagle project, he supervised the construction of a sign for the creative playground at School 6 that gives recognition to those who donated funds and those who built the playground.
