Thirty years ago — 1993 Cynthia Ann Stefan was recently named manager at Stefan’s Recreation Inc., 24 Lake Shore Drive West in Dunkirk. Cynthia earned a BS degree in accounting from SUNY Fredonia and is currently completing a re-design and decorating the store. She has worked in the operation of the store with her father, Lou, for years. Thirty years ago — 1993 The finishing touches are being put on the recording of a theme song for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in the Fredonia Central School. And, if all goes well, the son will be known throughout New York state. The song was written by David Goodworth, a teaching assistant at Fredonia. Thirty years ago — 1993 Two Dunkirk men were given the 1993 Business Person of the Year Award as part of the Chautauqua County celebration of National Small Business Week. Bruce H. Ritenburg III, president and chief executive officer of Nog Inc., and Louis J. Nalbone, owner of Dunkirk Aviation, were presented with the awards by William S. Thirty years ago — 1993 While high levels of lead are being found in residential tap water in many cities across the eastern United States, Dunkirk isn’t one of them. Cities in New York state such as Buffalo and Utica have shown high levels of lead in their drinking water, according to a report by the Environmental Protection Agency.
