Local connection for speaker series

Applause to the Anderson-Lee Library in Silver Creek for its Native American speaker series, which gets underway today. This is such an important piece to our community, especially when you consider our neighbor and a significant economic partner in the Seneca Nation of Indians.

In case you missed it, the program schedule includes:

¯ Today and Thursday at 6 p.m. Flip White, a member of the Wolf Clan of the Seneca Nation, an Air Force veteran and former director of the career development program at Seneca Gaming will share “Gano:nyok: Teaching the Message and Lessons of the Thanksgiving Address” with preregistration requested.

¯ Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. Lafayette Williams, a member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and from the Beaver Clan, will share his personal life experience and how he got his start in acting as an extra and then progressed to a professional level in television, movies, and live theater.

¯ Nov. 16, at 6 p.m.,. Richie Sasala, a citizen of the Cayuga Nation Turtle Clan and a teacher of social studies at Lakeshore High School in Angola, will speak about the history of the Thomas Indian School with pregistration requested.

¯ Thursday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m., Terry Jones will present “Historical Trauma & the American Indian Boarding School Experience.” Jones is an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians. He grew up and is living on the Seneca territory in Western New York and is a member of the Wolf Clan. Jones has a passion for sharing his Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) history and culture through his film works.
