Last week, everyone was a winner during the Unified Sports bowling event that took place at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga. Area schools that included Dunkirk, Fredonia Silver Creek and Pine Valley have put together squads that place a focus on teamwork and togetherness.

“The best part of the program is seeing some of our students go from teams where the goal is more focused on an ‘all about me’ attitude to moving to a Unified team where there is more of an attitude of ‘I want somebody else to do good, too,’ ” said Kristin Tomaszewski, Fredonia’s youth activation coordinator.

What makes this activity so unique is that it is not just open to a student who is an excellent athlete or an academic whiz. This event is for everyone — boosting morale and friendships in the schools and between districts. Just about every student who has taken part in this activity is beaming in photos and experiences.

We hope more schools become involved in this excellent recent addition to our schools. With division evident throughout society, it is wonderful to see something that brings so much cheer.
