Erie team beats Fredonia in tennis
Fredonia High School’s girls tennis team lost 4-1 to Fairview, a team from Erie, Pa., Wednesday.
Kelsey Vianese provided Fredonia’s only win, taking the second singles match 7-6, 6-2 over Emily Duckett.
“Vianese played a really smart and steady game to beat her opponent,” Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston said.
In first singles, Bernie Gens lost to Erica Jasinski, 7-5, 6-2. The third singles match was a three-hour marathon ultimately won by Fairview’s Audra Garnes over Alicia Kluck, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
Fredonia’s first doubles team of Jill Valvo and Selin Arnavut lost 6-2, 6-1 to Jillian Decker and Siegrid Tuttle. In second doubles, Fairview’s Kelsey Burger and Emma Kessel topped Nicole Cosico and Lydia Bird, 6-1, 6-0.
A busy schedule continues today for the Fredonia tennis team, with a home match against Chautauqua Lake. It will mark the Lady Hillbillies’ third match in three days.
