OBSERVER Staff Report
PORTVILLE — The Fredonia Hillbillies had a solid outing at the Portville Invitational wrestling tournament, placing sixth overall out of 16 other teams.
“It was a good day and it was good chance for the younger varsity guys to get some mat experience,” Fredonia coach Joe Santilli said. “We got a lot of work ahead of us. We’re a young team so we did a lot of good stuff and we got work ahead of us, but I see us evolving and we’re heading in the right direction.”
Peter Calani took home a second-place finish in the 126-pound division. Alex Christy (182), Michael Holt (195) and Yannie Acevedo (285) all placed fourth, respectively. Riley Betts (195) and Lucas Hoffman (99) had fifth-place finishes; Jeff Fishgold (138) and Tyler Winchell (152) each placed sixth.
Fredonia’s next meet will be played on Wednesday, at Southwestern.
