Cougars walk off against MG softball

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Cassadaga Valley softball team trailed Maple Grove 9-3 in the third inning, but by the bottom of the seventh inning when Emiley Anderson stepped up to the plate she had a chance to win the game.

Anderson hammered a walk-off double that sent Cassadaga Valley past Maple Grove 11-10 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West action on Wednesday.

Cassadaga Valley (2-7, 1-5) scored seven runs in the fourth inning to get back into the game and leading the offense was Anderson who went 3 for 4 with a home run, the walk-off double and 2 RBIs, Hailey Anderson doubled and had 2 RBIs, and Denza Fanara tripled with 2 RBIs. Andrea Johnson earned the win in the circle while striking out eight and giving up just five earned runs.

Maple Grove (1-6, 1-4) was led by Lydia Darr with two doubles and 2 RBIs, Alex Caldwell doubled and hit 2 RBIs and Alex Halstrom went 3 for 4 with a triple. Darr started the game in the circle for the Red Dragons and gave up 10 earned runs while striking out six and Meg Ryan came in relief to strike out five and give up one earned run.

EAGLES DOWN MARAUDERS

MAYVILLE — Alexis Szumigala threw a complete game in which she gave up just one run, five hits, three walks and struck out 10 batters to secure the 5-1 nonleague win for Chautauqua Lake against Dunkirk.

The Chautauqua Lake (9-1, 7-0 D2 West) offense was led by Cayzlee Johnson going 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Alice Scarpine doubled, stole a base and scored, Eden Ludwig walked twice, had an RBI and scored, and Karagan Fairbank drove in a run.

Dunkirk falls to 2-7 overall with the loss and remains 2-4 in Division 1 West.

CARDS ROLL PINE VALLEY

RANDOLPH — Ryanne Bushey struck out eight, walked one and gave up seven hits to lead Randolph past Pine Valley 12-2 in Division 1 East.

Aliza Hind propelled Randolph (4-4, 3-2) with a single and a triple, while the trio of Bushey, Sadie Steward and Abigail Pitts hit two singles each.

Pine Valley (2-6, 1-3) received doubles from Danica Farnham and Danielle West. Madilynn Robertson took the loss in the circle after five innings of work in which she struck out five, walked six and gave up eight hits.
