North Collins baseball, softball earn wins over Franklinville

OBSERVER Staff Reports

NORTH COLLINS — Brandon Zielinski threw a complete game, two-hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead the North Collins Eagles to a 3-1 win over Franklinville in a CCAA Division 2 East regular season high school baseball game on Friday at North Collins Jr./Sr. High School.

Zielinski allowed two hits, two walks and only one run in the game for North Collins (9-0, 4-0) on Friday. The NCCC verbal commit had a “stellar” game, according to North Collins coach Scott Gill.

Tyler Mathis drove in two runs for North Collins on the day.

The Eagles look to keep up the winning ways with another league game on Monday at Pine Valley.

NORTH COLLINS — The North Collins Lady Eagles put up a crooked number on the scoreboard on Friday, with a 23-3 victory over a short-handed Franklinville team in a CCAA Division 2 East high school softball matchup at North Collins Jr./Sr. High School.

Franklinville’s ace, Ally Haskell, was battling an illness and was unavailable for Friday’s game.

North Collins responded with 22 hits and 23 runs offensively, providing more than enough support for starter Rebecca Cyrek to earn the win.

Cyrek was a standout in the circle and at the plate for the Lady Eagles on Friday. Cyrek pitched five innings with 10 strikeouts, while only allowing one run on two hits and a walk. She also had five hits, five runs scored and five runs batted in, highlighted by a home run.

Alexa English and Rebecca Holmes also had stellar days at the plate for North Collins, each with four hits. Holmes had three runs scored and four runs batted in, along with two innings pitched in relief of Cyrek. English had three RBI and two runs scored.

“They all waited on pitches and hit the ball hard,” said North Collins coach Jan Warren. “We worked hard in batting practice expecting to see Ally Haskell. It would’ve been a different game if she was healthy.”
