North Collins softball wins

LITTLE VALLEY — The North Collins Lady Eagles picked up another win in high school softball league play on Friday night, avenging their only CCAA East 2 loss of the season with a 12-3 win over Cattaraugus/Little Valley.

North Collins (10-2) had a 1-0 lead early after a second inning run, but the Lady T’Wolves came back to score two in the fourth inning. North Collins added a pair in the fifth to take the lead right back, but it was still just a one-run game after five innings of play.

Then in the sixth inning, North Collins ran away with the game with nine runs.

It all started with a leadoff single by Morgan Mathis, who came around to score the first insurance run for the Lady Eagles. DeAnna Wilson broke the game open with a two-run double, followed by an RBI triple by Bailey Romano, then a single by Rebecca Cyrek to score Romano. When it was all said and done, North Collins led 12-2.

Cyrek earned the win on the mound for North Collins, pitching a complete game for the Lady Eagles. She finished with eight strikeouts, while only allowing one walk and four hits. The bulk of the damage off Cyrek came off the bat of Brooklynn Hill, who had a double and a home run for Cattaraugus/Little Valley.

“They’re a good team,” said North Collins coach Jan Warren. “It was a really close game until the sixth inning.”

North Collins had home runs from Cyrek and Brianna Krawczyk in the win.

“It took the girls a while to get going, but I’ve learned not to say anything to them when they’re starting slow,” said Warren. “I don’t think there’s any team they’re afraid to hit off of.”

The Lady Eagles look to keep the winning streak intact in a league matchup at Ellicottville on Monday.
