Westfield All Stars battled through a tough pitching match up Sunday afternoon in Sectional West play, moving their record in the tourney to 2-0.

Westfield scratched out two runs in the first and third innings, winning 4-0 against a great Orchard Park team out of District 1. Mackenzie Schumaker of Westfield gave up only two hits to Fanutti and Macdonald. She had nine strikeouts earning the win. Popp of Orchard Park had six strikeouts through three innings giving up no hits. Westfield was led by Madyson Burgess who homered in the third driving in one. Lucy Gates singled.

Eva Gnadzinski was the defensive star of the game recording five of the last nine outs singlehandedly.

Westfield will play tonight at Ed Eagan Field in Fredonia at 6 p.m. against the winner of Cuba vs. Orchard Park.

Westfield 15, Cuba 0

Westfield started Sectional play Sunday in Fredonia. Schumaker of Westfield put together a dominating performance on the mound against Cuba. She had nine strikeouts in three innings, giving up one hit.

Offensively, Westfield was powered by Burgess (triple). Gnadzinski and Schumaker singled. Hurg of Cuba had her team’s lone hit. Sydney Hotchkiss of Westfield was the defensive standout.

Westfield 13, Fredonia 3

Westfield was led by the hot hand of Gnadzinski. She struck out 13 batters through five innings and threw a one hitter while walking three. Offensively Westfield was led by Gates, who singled four times, Reece Schuster had three hits, and Burgess homered. Cramer of Fredonia singled.

Westfield 10, Dunkirk 0

Westfield was led by the perfect three innings thrown by Schumaker. She struck out eight batters and added two hits. Schuster (double), Burgess, and Gnadzinski each had two hits in the victory. Defensively Daylani Taylor of Dunkirk and Hotchkiss of Westfield were standouts.
