OBSERVER Staff Report

AKRON – The Gowanda/Pine Valley Panthers football team got defeated in a tough matchup on Friday, losing to the Akron Tigers 33-14 in Class C North action.

The Panthers were led by Caleb Maloney who had 16 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown.

Gowanda/Pine Valley was able to get on the board early in the first quarter, as the Panthers dominated the game through the first quarter. Gowanda/Pine Valley was able to score again in the second quarter, but from there, Akron took over the rest of the game.

Ryan Gernatt finished the game with 11 carries for 61 yards while Adam Sisti took nine carries for 46 yards. Sisti also made a bunch of tackles, racking up 18 in the contest.

A couple second half mistakes were key in the loss for the Panthers. Those mistakes helped the Tigers grab momentum and never let go.

As it looks now, the Panthers will travel next week to take on undefeated Southwestern in the first round of the playoffs.
