Jelinski, Morgan named assistant Devils captains

Fredonia Men’s Hockey Head Coach Jeff Meredith has named senior forwards Kyle Jelinski and Jimmy Morgan as assistant captains for the 2018-19 season. Earlier in the off-season, senior defenseman Mike Freeman was named team captain.

Jelinski has appeared in 72 games, with 13 goals and 17 assists to his credit. Morgan has 25 goals and 35 assists in 71 games as a Blue Devil.

“Both are tremendous role models, accomplished students, very good hockey players, and most importantly, first-class ambassadors for the hockey program. In thinking about Morgan, Jelinski, and Freeman, the first word that comes to my mind is wisdom. I say that because each is extremely level-headed and thoughtful before speaking. The trio is extremely mature and I am excited to work with them this year to bring a SUNYAC championship to Fredonia,” said Meredith.

Jelinski was born in Edmonton, the son of Haydee and Michael Jelinski. He is a 2012 graduate of Archbishop O’Leary High School and played junior hockey with the Fresno (Calif.) Monsters of the Western States Hockey League, where he and Freeman were teammates.

Born in Fort Collins, Col., Morgan is the son of Laurie and JP Morgan. The 2013 Highlands Ranch High School graduate played juniors in Bremerton, Wash., for the West Sound Warriors of the Northern Pacific Hockey League.

The first official practice day for the 2018-19 season is Monday. The Blue Devils have two preseason scrimmages, including the Blue-White Game on Oct. 13. The regular season opens with a home-and-home series vs. Chatham — Oct. 26 in Fredonia and Oct. 27 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
