Forestville kicks off season with win, beats Salamanca

SALAMANCA — The Forestville girls basketball team got off to a good start to their season on Friday, beating Salamanca by a score of 54-32.

Phoebe Kingsfield finished with 16 points for the Hornets, while adding four steals to go with it.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the first quarter then went on a run to push the score to 21-9 at halftime.

“We went out in a full court press that helped right off the bat,” said Forestville head coach Lisa Szumigala. “Offensively, we were running good plays and getting good shots. The girls opened it up by taking good shots.”

Sylvea Cleary had 14 points for the Hornets and Clare Kingsfield had 13. Chloe Barrett added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners.

Forestville (1-0) will play again on Tuesday when they host Westfield at 7:30 p.m.
