Dunkirk rolls to win vs. Cassadaga Valley

OBSERVER Staff Report

The Dunkirk Marauders followed up their dramatic win over Fredonia by running away with Saturday’s contest against Cassadaga Valley by a score of 14-3 in CCAA Division 1 West baseball.

Needing an efficient outing on the mound with another game against Fredonia looming, Tristan Skelly came through for the Marauders. He pitched six innings for the Marauders on Saturday to earn the win, only allowing three runs, one of which was unearned.

“Tristan Skelly pitched an outstanding game,” said Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda. “We needed a guy to throw some innings for us and he did a great job for us.”

After a pitchers’ duel on Friday, Dunkirk wasn’t shy about reaching base on Saturday. The Marauders pounded out 14 hits against Cassadaga Valley, led by three doubles from Lucas Porpiglia. Phil Messina, Mike Norton, Ennuel Baretto and Nick Zatorski all had two hits for Dunkirk, while Peyton Ahlstrom had a hit and two RBI.

Dunkirk now hosts rival Fredonia today, at 1 p.m., at Dunkirk High School.
