Gateway Park in the Village of Gowanda will host three sporting events this weekend. On Friday, the 18th annual Tri-County youth football clinic for athletes ages 7-13 will kick off the festivities.

The 2nd Annual Gowanda girls 16 and under fast pitch softball tournament will take place on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Teams from Gowanda, Sherman, Pine Valley and Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Ellicottville will be competing against one another in a round robin format.

The following night, Sunday, the 3rd Annual Gowanda men’s slow pitch softball old timers game will be held at 6 p.m. A family picnic will follow the game.

All of these events are sponsored by the Gowanda Recreation Department.

“We continue to create new events to get everyone involved and utilize Gowanda’s newest park that sits along the banks of the Cattaraugus Creek,” noted recreation director Mark Benton. “We will also be taking our summer recreation youth program to Gateway Park for a special events day on August 2,” added Benton. The Gowanda Recreation youth program had a record 178 children registered this summer.
