BEMUS POINT — Fredonia’s Emily Brown didn’t take long to get her first win of the cross country season. Brown came in first at the Red Dragon Invitational at Long Point State Park on Saturday, with a time of 19:11, a personal best of more than 30 seconds.

“Emily ran an outstanding race. She is very good with race strategy and is coming into the season with a very solid base to build on as the season progresses,” said Fredonia coach Carol Zirkle.

It wasn’t only Brown that stood out on Saturday among the Lady ‘Billies. Savannah Lashbrook came in 10th with a time of 21:32. Julia Lebarron finished 27th in 23:15, while Ashlynn Ambrose was 36th in 24:02. Overall, Fredonia finished third overall in the large school division.

“Savannah Lashbrook has been working very hard and it shows in her performance. … Julia Lebarron raced her very first cross country race (Saturday) and did a great job. … Ashlynn Ambrose raced a gutsy race coming off an injury that has impacted her training the last week and a half,” said Zirkle of her team.
