Gowanda wrestling starts season with loss to Maple Grove

GOWANDA — The Maple Grove Red Dragons came out on top of Wednesday’s varsity wrestling contest with the Gowanda Panthers at Gowanda High School by a score of 54-27.

The match featured eight forfeits in all, most of which went in favor of the Red Dragons for the overall victory. Gowanda, however, still did manage to see positive results from its wrestlers who competed. Gowanda’s Michael Horth won by a decision at 106 pounds, while Gowanda’s Dom Rodriguez (145) and Everette Golden (185) each earned pinfall victories. Maple Grove had three pinfall victories as well, at 126, 160 and 285, where the match began.

Gowanda now heads to St. Francis for a dual meet tournament on Friday and Saturday.
