ONLINE ONLY: Frewsburg beats Forestville; Cassadaga Valley tops Falconer

FREWSBURG – Despite shooting 0 of 18 from 3-point range, Frewsburg beat Forestville 61-49 in nonleague boys basketball action Friday night.

The Bears made up for it by going 17 of 21 at the free throw line, led by senior Brad Nelson’s 9 of 10.

Nelson finished with a game-high 25 points to go along with five steals, three assists and two blocked shots. Aaron Hair added 15 points and 15 rebounds while Peyton Hayes had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Frewsburg (3-0).

Javier West led the Hornets (1-3) with 21 points, including five 3-pointers, and five assists. Gavin Christian added 14 points, Dalton Hastings had nine rebounds and Jake Smith had five steals.

Cassadaga Valley 57, Falconer 39

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Cassadaga Valley Cougars had an outstanding first quarter over rival Falconer on Friday night to propel the Cougars to a 57-39 win in a boys basketball contest at Cassadaga Valley High School.

Cassadaga Valley’s Drake Pierce held Falconer (1-3) leading scorer Nick Erickson scoreless in the first quarter playing man-to-man defense, as the Cougars (2-2) outscored Falconer 27-4 in the period. “We just came out shooting very hot and our defense led to a lot in transition,” said Cougars coach Cody Jacobson.

Falconer’s Erickson finished with 17 points, six rebounds and five steals, but Cassadaga Valley came out on top with Noah Richner leading the Cougars with 12 points. Braden LeBaron added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Nick Russo had nine rebounds and Connor Austin had six steals.
