Gowanda offers winter exercise opportunities

Special to the OBSERVER

GOWANDA — The Adult & Community Education division of Gowanda Central School District is offering several fitness opportunities for area adults via its Winter 2020 offerings and registration is ongoing. Please note: Participants must be 18 or older and not enrolled in any public or private secondary school in order to participate.

Bee Fit Boot Camp

Get up, get out, and get healthy! This series of indoor group workouts is designed to fill your Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a perfect blend of fun & fitness. Join trainer Brittany Olszewski from Jan. 7 through March 19, 2020, in the Gowanda Elementary School gym, 450 Aldrich St.. Class fee: All 20 classes for $65 or any 14 for $50 or any 7 for $30 or $5 per session. Register online.

Circuit Training

Moving quickly from one exercise to another is a great boredom booster as it means your mind doesn’t have time to wander or tune out. An all-strength circuit burns 30 percent more calories (about 9 per minute) than a typical weight workout and offers more cardio benefits. A circuit that combines cardio and strength moves will blast fat and sculpt muscle. It can also burn up to 10 calories per minute. Join instructor Steve Maines, a certified physical education teacher, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. from Jan. 7 through April 4, 2020, in the weight room at Gowanda High School, 10674 Prospect St. Fee options: Three times per week/36 classes for $105; two times per week/24 classes for $75; once per week/12 classes for $45; or pay as you go for $5/class. Register online.

Pound

Instead of listening to music, become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Using Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered for exercising, Pound transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Designed for all fitness levels, Pound encourages participants to let loose, get energized, tone up and rock out. This workout is easily modifiable and the alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy appeals to men and women of all ages and abilities. Join instructor Jessica Dennis on Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. from Jan. 6 through April 6, 2020, in the gym at Gowanda Elementary School, 450 Aldrich Street. Register online.

Zumba

Try out this high-energy, fun, calorie-burning, cardio dance workout with instructor Erin Ranic in the gym at Gowanda Elementary School on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting Jan. 8 and ending April 8, 2020. Fee is $50 for all 13 sessions or pay as you go for $5/class. Register online.

Open Weight Lifting

A continuous class for those 18 and older is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the weight room at Gowanda High School. Weightlifters are able to come in and strength train according to their own routine. The cost is $30 for 10 sessions.
