CHEEKTOWAGA — On Monday, March 2, Silver Creek’s Unified Bowling Team traveled to AMF Airport Lanes in Buffalo to complete in the Unified Bowling Section 6 Tournament.

Twenty-two teams from the WNY area came to compete. Silver Creek was matched up against Williamsville, Niagara Falls, and Amherst, but in the end walked away with their first Championship Title.

Everyone was able to play in at least one game. Ellie Decker, Maggie Eslinger, Alyssa Bergey and Zaeden Fuentes all scored new game high scores. Ellie scored 138, Maggie 148, Alyssa 103 and Zaeden 93.

Although, Silver Creek came away with the first place plaque, the goal going into the Championship Meet was to have fun and cheer on the other teams. Several spectators, coaches, and bowlers commented that Silver Creek was the loudest team there, cheering on not only their own team, but other teams around them.

Once again, a Silver Creek student, Alyssa Bergey was honored as the Character Athlete of the Game for her outstanding sportsmanship and positive interactions with teammates, as well as other teams around them.

The team will honor their Seniors after school this Wednesday since their home meet on Thursday, Feb. 28 was canceled due to weather.

There will also be a Spirit Week held from Wednesday, March 4 through Tuesday, March 10 to promote the National Unified Sports “Spread the Word: Inclusion” Campaign. March 4 is the National Spread the Word: Inclusion Day. Go to https://www.spreadtheword.global/ to find out more information.
