The Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team forced a boatload of turnovers Saturday afternoon in its NJCAA game at the Physical Education Complex.

Thirty-five, to be exact.

It still wasn’t enough to knock off the 17th-ranked Division II team in the country.

Samira Sargent led four players in double figures with 34 points and Union County (New Jersey) College shot 54 percent from the floor en route to a 111-86 victory over the Jayhawks.

Playing less than 24 hours after upending Bryant & Stratton Albany, 115-103, Jamestown CC got off to an extremely slow start. Less than five minutes into the first quarter, the Jayhawks trailed, 17-1. By the end of the period the deficit stood at 30-16 and they never recovered.

The loss dropped Jamestown CC’s record to 3-6 heading into Tuesday’s Region 3 Division II home game against Niagara County CC. Union County improved to 9-2.

Kymie Nance led the Jayhawks with 30 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals; Sydney Burk chipped in 12 points; and Marisa Schuppenhauer and Hannah Hicks added 11. Hicks also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, Burk hauled in eight, and Jessica Beehler dished out eight assists.

Joining Sargent in double figures for Union County College were Aliyah Williams with 16, Brianna Mills with 14 and Tatiana Bruno with 10.
