Fredonia to host Class C quarterfinal in Dunkirk

Last spring, Jamestown suffered a crushing defeat in the Section VI Class A championship game at the hands of South Park.

This fall, the Red Raiders won’t have to deal with the Sparks in their pursuit of a title.

Section VI announced its football playoff schedule Sunday and Jamestown, the No. 1 seed to come out of Class A South, will host Lockport, the North’s fourth seed in a quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Friday at Strider Field.

Grand Island is the No. 1 seed in Class A North and will host A South No. 4 Hamburg while Frontier, the South’s No. 2 seed, will host North No. 3 Sweet Home in Friday’s other quarterfinal. On Saturday, North No. 2 Kenmore West will host South No. 3 Williamsville South.

In Class C, despite finishing with a perfect overall and league record, Fredonia is the No. 3 seed. The Hillbillies will host No. 6 Akron at 7 p.m. Saturday at Dunkirk High School’s Karl Hoeppner Field.

No. 4 Salamanca will host No. 5 Lackawanna at 7 p.m. Friday at Veteran’s Field while No. 7 Southwestern will travel to No. 2 Depew that same night. Medina is the No. 1 seed in Class C and will host No. 8 Eden on Friday.

In Class D, Silver Creek/Forestville and Cattaraugus-Little Valley declined participation in the postseason giving the other four teams a bye week before the semifinals. On Friday, Nov. 5, No. 1 Randolph will host No. 4 Portville at 7 p.m. The following afternoon, No. 2 Clymer/Sherman/Panama will host No. 3 Franklinville/Ellicottville at 1:30 p.m. in Panama.

In Class B, South No. 1 Iroquois will host North No. 4 Cheektowaga, South No. 2 West Seneca East will host North No. 3 Maryvale and North No. 2 Albion will host South No. 3 Olean in quarterfinals Friday. On Saturday, North No. 1 WNY Maritime will host South No. 4 Pioneer at Johnnie B. Wiley Stadium at 2 p.m.

Semifinals will take place with higher seeds hosting the games next weekend.

Championship weekend is set for Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13 at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. Class D will kick things off at 5 p.m. Friday with Class A to follow at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Class C will begin at noon with Class B to follow at approximately 3:15 p.m. and Class AA at 6:30 p.m.
