RIPLEY — Behind three first-, three second- and three third-place finishes, Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer claimed the Ripley Wrestling Invitational on Saturday at Ripley Central School.
The Thunderbirds recorded 175 points to easily outdistance the 24-team field. Frontier (89), Randolph (81), Eden (78) and Southwestern (74.5) second through fifth, respectively.
Individually, Maple Grove’s Luke Tomlinson was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler after claiming his 200th career win and capturing the 145-pound weight class. Also achieving milestone victories were the Thunderbirds’ Trent Burchanowski (132 pounds) and Eden’s Johnny Vicario (126 pounds), who both hit the century mark.
Among area schools, Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer had three individual champions, Burchanowski, Jordan Joslyn (118 pounds) and John Watson (152 pounds); Southwestern had three individual champions, Carmine Calimeri (102 pounds), Tavio Hoose (189 pounds) and Dontae Hoose (215 pounds); and Randolph (Luke Pagett at 172 pounds) and Maple Grove (Tomlinson) had one apiece.
