Maple Grove ace tosses one-hitter in 6-1 victory

SINCLAIRVILLE — Lydia Darr tossed a one-hitter and struck out 11 to spark Maple Grove to a 6-1 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West softball victory over Cassadaga Valley on Saturday.

Erin Nolan collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Red Dragons. Teammates Erin Mansfield (one RBI) and Tessa Reed (two RBIs) added a single and double, respectively.

Aystyn Barrett and Andrea Johnson combined on a seven-hitter and struck out three for Cassadaga Valley. The Cougars’ lone hit was a single by Payton Allessi.

GOWANDA OUTHITS PINE VALLEY

GOWANDA — Lily Bobseine went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs while also picking up the win in the circle as Gowanda beat Pine Valley 14-5 in Division 1 East action.

Cameron Nagel went 3 for 4 with two stolen bases; Addison Kota went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs; Holland Browning had two hits, including a double, and and RBI; Jada Geiger had three hits, including a double; and Emylia McHale had three RBIs for Gowanda (3-4, 1-1).

Pine Valley (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season in what was its league opener.

BLACK KNIGHTS ROLL

BROCTON — Silver Creek broke open a close game by scoring four runs in the fourth inning and seven in the sixth to propel it to a 15-4 Division 1 East victory.

Amber Lockwood had three hits, and Caitlyn Rice, Ryleigh Lawton (double), Brianna Allen and Tessa Brunner all had two hits apiece for the winners, who totaled 15 as a team. Lockwood and winning pitcher Kayla Hutchison (10 strikeouts) were effective in the circle.

Angeline Rexford, Savanna Krystofiak (double) and Lorin Rizzo (double) had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

HOTCHKISS STANDS OUT FOR WESTFIELD

FREWSBURG — Westfield broke open a 5-4 game with a four-run top of the fourth and added seven runs in the final two innings as the Wolverines beat Frewsburg 16-4 in Division 2 West action.

Sydney Hotchkiss went 4 for 5 with a double and a triple while driving in five runs; Eva Gnadzinski was 4 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs; Haleigh Dellow had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs; and Cassidy Phillips also doubled for Westfield (7-0, 4-0).

Dellow threw a six-hitter with 13 strikeouts, two walks and a hit batter in the circle.

Braelyn Stelmack had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs for the Bears (2-2, 0-2).

MATOS LEADS FREDONIA

Gabby Matos hit two doubles while Lila Cameron and Jaelyn Davis also doubled as Fredonia shut out Jamestown 15-0 in Division 1 West play at Fredonia High School.

The Hillbillies (4-0, 4-0) scored seven runs in the first inning and seven more in the second.

The Red Raiders’ Sklynn Tomlinson made a running catch in right field and doubled off a Fredonia runner at second base to prevent any scoring in the third inning.

Jordan Lucas threw all five innings for the Hillbillies, striking out nine while allowing two hits, one walk and hitting a batter.

Aliya Graham and Alyson Canfield each singled for Jamestown (1-3, 0-2).

EAGLES WIN IN SEVENTH

SALAMANCA — Cate Ayers threw a complete game for North Collins in an 8-6 Division 2 East victory over Salamanca on Saturday.

The teams were tied 6-6 heading into the seventh inning before the Eagles (2-5, 2-2) plated a pair of runs.

Emma Brown, Jaelynne Brown and Gahsenide Hubbel each had three hits for the Warriors (3-1, 2-1).

Salamanca salvaged its Saturday with a 13-9 victory over West Valley.

Morgan Maybee went 5 for 5 while Emma Brown, Kierstyn Klahn, Myra Breazeale, Alyssa Perkins, Makenzie Crouse and Makenzie Oakes each added multiple hits.

Ava Bockahn went 4 for 4 while Bethany Stainer, Nicole Blackwell, Colleen Keller, Lauren Frascella and Ronni Dufrane each added multiple hits for West Valley.

On Sunday, Ellicottville beat Salamanca 11-4 behind Allison Rowland’s 3-for-4 day that included a pair of doubles.

For the Warriors, Breazeale had two hits and scored a run.
