Wolfe defends New York Open title
BUSTI — The Wednesday Travel League held its first major event of the season, the New York Open, at South Hills Country Club.
Mike Wolfe successfully defended his 2021 championship, shooting the low round of 75. Wayne Stoughton finished second with 78 and Dave Criscione was third with 84. Wolfe led the front nine with a 1-under par 35. Stoughton and Ed Tofil led the back nine with 38s. Other flight winners were Gary Haase (B), Bob Thompson (C) and Jaime Galarza (D). The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was John Tofil.
Wolfe’s victory was his fourth career major win and 15th overall tour win. His 75 was also the low round in league play so far this season.

Closest to the pin were: Dave Wallace (No. 4), John Tofil (No. 9), Bob Kujawa (No. 13) and Wolfe (No. 15). Winners of the steeplechase were: Wolfe (A Flight), Ellman (B Flight), John Waterman (C Flight) and Dennis Gawronski Sr. (D Flight). Winners of the par-3 contest were: A Flight — Stoughton (even), B Flight — Gawron (plus-2), C Flight — Tim Walawender and Mick Dunning Sr. (plus-3, identical scores) and D Flight — Jack Hood (plus-4).
