FREWSBURG — On Thursday night, North Collins was victimized to the tune of 105 points in a 46-point loss to Frewsburg.

On Friday afternoon, it was the Eagles’ turn for an offensive outburst.

Senior Matt Sweet scored 32 points and junior Derek Ebersole added 26 as North Collins beat Eden 80-65 in the boys consolation game at the Frewsburg Holiday Tournament.

“Matt and Derek show up every game and play as hard as they can every game. They give us everything they’ve got and don’t leave anything out there,” Eagles head coach Jan Warren said. “They are fun to watch because even in (Thursday’s) game, (Frewsburg) had a run in the second quarter and we went down big; they didn’t stop playing. We got it to 12 early in the third quarter.”

The Eagles led 60-54 after three quarters Friday and created some breathing room early in the fourth quarter.

Asher Parnitzke opened the period with a 3-pointer and then after the Raiders’ Billy Yohn converted a three-point play, Ebersole was fouled after making a long jumper.

The referees deemed the foul so late that they awarded the Eagles possession. After a missed 3-pointer and another missed shot, Daniel Downes converted in the lane to make it a 10-point game.

“Our big guys are getting better with each game that we play. … If we made our putbacks we would’ve scored even more points today,” Warren said. ” … I think it’s going to be fun the rest of the year.”

Eden’s Chris Krencik and Yohn scored consecutive buckets midway through the period to cut the Raiders’ deficit to six, but another basket from Downes and a three-point play from Sweet pushed North Collins’ lead back up to 11.

“We’re looking for Matt and Derek running,” Warren said. “I think we’re best when we are running.”

Eden failed to score on its final six possessions.

Tyler Wakelam led the Raiders with 18 points and Kobe Genco had 16 while Taesyn Slating chipped in 14, but Genco and Slating combined for just 3 in the second half.

Sweet scored 14 points during the first quarter and the Eagles led 22-21 after eight minutes.

Ebersole and Downes picked up the slack during second quarter, combining for 17 points as North Collins took a 41-38 lead into halftime.

“Matt and Derek came out early making a lot of shots,” Warren said. “We have a rule that I call Coach Warren’s Rule. If you’re not hot shooting, get hot. I tell them if they miss their first five, keep shooting. … I think if we play up to our potential, we can have a lot of success this year.”

NOTES: Downes had 14 points and 10 rebounds; Parnitzke grabbed nine rebounds; and Sweet had four assists for North Collins, which shot 34 of 74 (45.9%) from the field, including 6 of 24 from 3-point range, and turned the ball over 13 times. … Eden was 24 of 61 (39.3%) from the field, including 8 of 30 from 3-point range, and turned the ball over 12 times.
