Southwestern shuts out Valley 9-0

AREA B 10-12 ALL-STARS

FREWSBURG — Preston Hendrix came up one out shy of a complete-game shutout to lead Southwestern into the District 38 semifinals with a 9-0 victory over Valley.

Hendrix struck out 15 and allowed just one hit while walking five for Southwestern, which earned Area B’s No. 2 seed and will take on Area A No. 1 seed Fredonia at 1 p.m. Sunday in Frewsburg.

Southwestern took a 3-0 lead in the third inning Friday. Andrew Cama singled, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch before Alex Olson hit an RBI single. Olson moved to second on a wild pitch before Jack Ballard walked. Both runners moved up on a passed ball before Evan Conklin’s two-run triple to right-center field.

Southwestern added on with a six-run sixth inning.

Hendrix and Kingston Overbeck singled before a walk to Nolan Truver loaded the bases. Gus Brown then walked to force in a run and Cama hit an RBI single before Olson hit a three-run bases-clearing double. Noah Lindell followed with an RBI single to make it 9-0.

Hendrix got the first two outs of the bottom of the sixth inning before reaching his pitch-count threshold. Conklin induced a fly ball to center field for the final out.

Preston Swan had Valley’s lone hit with a one-out single in the first inning. Mason Debo and Ayden Hohl combined to strike out 10 on the mound.

Sunday’s 3:30 p.m. semifinal in Frewsburg will match up Area B No. 1 Falconer with Area A No. 2 Dunkirk.

AREA B 8-10 ALL-STARS

FALCONER — Chase Parmentier homered as Falconer locked up the Area B No. 1 seed with an 18-8 win over Southwestern.

Noah Nelson tripled while Andrew Youngberg and Owen Carlberg both had three hits with a double.

Collin Strong, Kolton Bouckhuyt and Jackson Troutman all had hits for Southwestern.

Falconer will play Area A No. 2 seed Dunkirk on Sunday in Mayville. Southwestern will take on Area A No. 1 seed Fredonia that same day in Mayville.
