Gowanda boys, girls 2nd at Southwestern

The Southwestern boys and girls both claimed individual and team wins in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association cross country team on their home course Tuesday.

The Trojans’ Donavin Brown posted a winning time of 17:45 to just hold off Olean’s Lucas Peterson-Volz (17:46) to claim the boys race. Southwestern’s Trey Faulk was third in 17:48.

The Trojans finished with 25 points; Gowanda, which was led by Cashis Montour’s fifth-place finish (18:35), was second with 39 points; and Olean was third with 65. Dunkirk was incomplete.

In the girls race, Southwestern’s Emma Lewis breezed to a first-place finish with a time of 19:31. The Trojans captured the team win with 26 points, followed by Gowanda with 52 and Olean with 54. Dunkirk was incomplete.

The Panthers’ Calie Hudson placed second (22:07), while Hanan Mohammad of Dunkirk was third (22:21).

RANDOLPH — Roan Kelly of Randolph and Elexa Duggan of Allegany-Limestone claimed individual wins in the boys and girls races with times of 16:42 and 18:56, respectively, on the 2.9-mile course.

Fredonia/Westfield, led by Trent Krenzer’s 18:03 clocking, finished with 15 points to win as a team. Randolph, Allegany-Limestone and Cattaraugus-Little Valley were incomplete.

In the girls race, Allegany-Limestone was the team winner with 19 points and Fredonia/Westfield finished with 39. Randolph and Cattaraugus-Little Valley were incomplete.

DIAZ-CORTES, MAYS LEAD WAY

BEMUS POINT — Juvenal Diaz-Cortes of Frewsburg toured the 3.1-mile course at Long Point State Park in 16:40 to hold off Maple Grove’s Ethan Verbosky (16:46) for individual honors.

Jamestown, however, had four runners finish in the top 10 to hold off Maple Grove 33-39 to claim the team win. Frewsburg was third with 73 points, while Silver Creek/Forestville was fourth with 98 points.

Leah Mays of Silver Creek/Forestville was the top individual runner in the girls race, posting a time of 20:36.09, to just edge teammate Emily Bowers (20:36.50), but Maple Grove downed Frewsburg 20-41 for the team win. Jamestown and Silver Creek/Forestville were incomplete.

WEST VALLEY RUNNERS SHINE

FALCONER — A pair of West Valley runners were the individual winners, but Clymer/Sherman/Panama won the boys race with 34 points and the girls race with 15 points at Breezewood Links.

Olivia Harmony won the girls race in 20:32 for West Valley, but no team other than the Wolfpack was complete.

West Valley’s Jack Tharnish won the boys race in 17:54, but the Wolfpack were victorious with 34 points. Franklinville/Ellicottville and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley tied for second with 61 points while West Valley was fourth with 64.
