Canfield stars as Jamestown takes down Gowanda 66-37

JAMESTOWN — Alyson Canfield moved up the all-time 3-pointers made list at Jamestown High School on Tuesday.

She did so in record-breaking fashion.

Canfield made a Red Raiders’ single-game record nine 3-pointers en route to a career-high 39 points as Jamestown beat nonleague Gowanda 66-37 at McElrath Gymasium.

Canfield made three 3-pointers during an 11-4 first quarter and added three more in the second quarter as the Red Raiders’ built a 35-12 halftime lead.

After the break, Canfield made another 3-pointer in the third quarter and her final two in the fourth quarter.

The senior also picked up eight steals and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Anna Engquist added 10 points and seven rebounds; Payton Gibbs grabbed five rebounds and eight steals; and Ryan Leeper also grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Canfield’s nine 3-pointers give her 151 for her career, six more than third-place Erinne Cunningham and one behind second-place Annie Campion. Marley Drake is the all-time leader with 262.

Corrina John led the Panthers with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

ELLERY — Claire Price scored 5 points and Bryanna Cornell added 4 during a 13-4 fourth quarter as Maple Grove rallied past Silver Creek for a 31-26 Division 2 West victory.

Price finished with 11 points; Rebekka Roberts had 7 points and seven rebounds; and Cornell had 6 points and 11 rebounds for the Red Dragons (3-1, 1-1).

Maddy Blair led the Black Knights (2-3, 0-2) with 7 points and Lucille Jimerson had 6.

NYWEIDE NETS CAREER HIGH

CLYMER — Ava Nyweide scored 19 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field in the first quarter and finished with a career-high 30 points to power Clymer past Chautauqua Lake 68-27 in the Division 2 West opener for both teams.

Alexys Neckers added 15 points, six rebounds, five steals, three assists and two blocked shots, while Elli Bodamer had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Pirates (3-0, 1-0).

Taylor Donato led the Eagles (1-2, 0-1) with 9 points and six rebounds, while Elise Riedesel had 6 points and six rebounds.

BEARS NEARLY UPSET LANCASTER

LANCASTER — Madison Francis scored 46 points, including 9 in a pair of overtime periods, as Lancaster outlasted Frewsburg 79-73 in nonleague play.

Francis, a returning first-team Class AA all-state player who is ranked in the top 10 in the United States for Class of 2025 girls by many publications, made 21 field goals and four free throws to lead the Legends. Grace Harrington added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and McKenna Corcoran had 11 points.

Lancaster (2-0) led 13-10 after the first quarter, but Frewsburg outscored the hosts 17-10 in the second quarter to lead 27-23 at halftime.

Jadyn Trocki led the Bears (3-2) with 24 points, eight assists and seven steals; Teghan Trocki had 21 points and nine rebounds; and Ava Jimerson had 17 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.

Quinn Pence paced the Cardinals (4-2) with 15 points, nine steals, eight rebounds and six assists; Gianna Bowles had 12 points and three steals; and Zoey Dickerson blocked seven shots.

Mia Vannelli led the Wildcats (0-2) with 21 points.

Braya Beaver added 14 points, Ellie Pearson had 11 points, Madi McIntyre had 10 points and Lauren Cotter had 11 rebounds for the Trojans (1-3).

Kaitlyn Horton led the Panthers (0-5) with 11 points and eight rebounds; Kylie Morgan had 8 points and three assists; and Tess Flikkema grabbed six rebounds.

Lezly McComber led Salamanca with 22 points, while Karina Crouse had 13, and Makenzie Crouse and Bella Wolfe had 12 apiece. The Warriors led 30-5 after the first quarter and 44-7 at halftime.

DUNKIRK — Behind a decisive second half, Dunkirk pulled away from Falconer for a 46-30 nonleague victory.

Emaladie Pacheco led the way for the Marauders (3-0, 2-0) with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals; Molly Dicara added 12 points and six assists; and Shyla Karin chipped in 9 points, four boards and two steals.

The Golden Falcons (1-4, 0-4) led 16-15 at halftime, but Dunkirk outscored Falconer 31-14 after the break.

Augustine Krenzer led the Golden Falcons with 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

COUGARS TRIM PANTHERS

SOUTH DAYTON — Emiley Anderson and Andrea Johnson provided a potent one-two punch to lead Cassadaga Valley to a 57-45 nonleague win over Pine Valley.

Anderson scored 21 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and four steals; Johnson added 19 points; Hailey Anderson grabbed eight rebounds and Mia Fanara added five boards.

For Pine Valley, Danielle West led the way with 25 points and Alyssa West had 10.
