Swanson is MVP as Westfield wins Southwestern tourney

WEST ELLICOTT — Carson Swanson turned in a triple-double on his way to tournament Most Valuable Player honors as Westfield beat Southwestern on Saturday afternoon.

Swanson had 22 points, 10 assists and 10 steals to go along with seven rebounds as the Wolverines beat the Trojans 60-46.

Southwestern led by a point after the first quarter before Westfield took control with a 20-3 second quarter.

Zach Maguire joined Swanson on the all-tournament team after scoring 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. Aaron Fuller added 10 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Declan Kennedy represented host Southwestern on the all-tournament team after scoring 11 points and adding four rebounds. Chase Harnett had 9 points in the loss.

In the consolation game, Ellicottville’s Owen Chudy had 15 points, 14 rebounds and three assists on his way to an all-tournament team selection as the Eagles beat Frewsburg 52-49.

Blake Smith chipped in 15 points and six rebounds for Ellicottville, which led 26-17 at halftime.

Gavin Smith, the Bears’ all-tournament team representative, led his team with 18 points and six rebounds; Garrett Brink had 10 points, three assists and two steals; and Blake Weaver had 10 points, six rebounds and four steals.

HILLBILLIES FALL AT SUNY FREDONIA

FREDONIA — Mike Hahn led three players in double figures, but Fredonia fell to Harbor Creek (Pa.) 59-56 in overtime Saturday at SUNY Fredonia.

The Hillbillies tied the game in regulation by outscoring the Huskies 18-11 in the fourth quarter, but Harbor Creek won the overtime 9-6.

Hahn led Fredonia with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists; Ashton Putney had 16 points and four assists; and Davion White had 14 points and seven assists.

Lucus Brown scored 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and six steals to lead Salamanca to a 55-30 victory over Depew in an earlier game at SUNY Fredonia.

Avery Brown added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors, who led 27-19 at halftime before a 20-7 third quarter put the game away.

BROCTON

STRUGGLES IN 4TH

FRANKLINVILLE — A 52-48 lead after three quarters turned into a 14-point win as Franklinville outscored nonleague Brocton 12-2 over the final eight minutes to win 64-50 on Saturday.

Noah Shenk led the Panthers with 26 points, while Bretton Blecha had 16 points and seven rebounds. Isaac Towne grabbed 11 rebounds for Franklinville.

Michael Garcia led the Bulldogs with 24 points and five steals, while Austin McIntyre had 8 points and 12 rebounds.

AMHERST — Seven players scored during a 17-3 first quarter to jump-start Jamestown to a 78-41 nonleague victory over Park.

Jaydian Johnson led the Red Raiders with 20 points, six assists and three steals; Greg Brumagin had 14 points and four assists; and Dom Gonzalez had 10 points, four rebounds and four assists for Jamestown.

Marque Sudduth led Park with 11 points.
