Blue Devils take 2 of 3 from Oneonta in Gowanda

GOWANDA — Fredonia State swept a Sunday doubleheader from Oneonta, including a walk-off win in Game 1, en route to 8-7 and 7-4 SUNYAC victories.

Tied 7-7, Tucker Schwab delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning on a seeing-eye single to plate Brady Ventura as the Devils celebrated their 8-7 win in Game 1.

Ventura was a pest all game, getting three hits in his first three at-bats, driving in a run in his fourth, and was hit by a pitch to start the ninth before coming around to score.

Nate O’Brochta picked up a win in relief. He struck out five in two innings of work. Peyton Ahlstrom set the table for him, going six innings and striking out six in a no-decision.

Christain Pagano added a home run among his two hits, and Schwab had a pair of RBI singles.

A two-run home run from Oneonta’s Joey Dwyer got the Red Dragons rolling in the top of the first. However, a three-spot for the Devils gave them the lead that they would keep the entire game.

Garrett Stuckey and Alex Gannon both had a pair of singles, and Pagano added his second longball of the day. He now has three on the season.

Morgan Zientara went six innings for the win. Freshman David Adams threw two scoreless to pick up his first collegiate save.

The Devils will play at Ludwig Field for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Thiel College on Tuesday.
