JAMESTOWN — Francesca Pucci missed her soccer and basketball seasons due to a knee injury. Cleared to continue her athletic career in March, Fredonia flag football coach Nick Bertrando was happy to have her on this spring’s roster.

Pucci rewarded Bertrando on Sunday afternoon, rushing for 122 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns and recording four flag pulls as the ‘Billies’ posted a 13-0 victory over Jamestown in a Section VI non-divisional season opener at Strider Field.

Pucci, a senior, scored both touchdowns in the first half on runs of 25 and 30 yards. Senior Emma Patterson added 54 yards on the ground; and senior quarterback Ella Koopman completed 6 of 8 passes for 73 yards.

Koopman led the way defensively for Fredonia, collecting nine flag pulls and four pass breakups; senior Rosa Aponte added five flag pulls; and senior Lily Runkel recorded two sacks.

The ‘Billies will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Pioneer, followed by a 7 p.m. game Friday against Dunkirk at the Orange Bowl.
