ELMA — Tied 5-5, No. 7 Dunkirk scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat No. 2 Iroquois 10-5 in a Section VI Class A2 quarterfinal Tuesday.

Josh Lemanski walked to open the seventh inning before moving to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Greg Orcutt then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the potential go-ahead run to third with one out. Anthony Piede then reached on an error as Lemanski made it 6-5.

After Dylan Bankoski was hit by a pitch and Donnie Jackson walked to load the bases, Jonathan Ganey hit an RBI single to left field. With the bases still loaded, Thomas Shaffer and Paul Trippy III reached on back-to-back walks to make it 9-5. With two outs, Lemanski hit an RBI single to center field for the 10th run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Shaffer walked a pair of Redhawks with one out before a flyball to Orcutt in right field turned into a double play to end the game.

Shaffer earned the win with three innings of shutout relief, allowing just one hit while walking three and striking out two.

“Thomas Shaffer came in and settled things down,” Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda said. “He came in and threw strikes, and we played solid defense behind him, including an outstanding diving catch by Greg Orcutt in right field to get the first out in the bottom of the seventh.”

Iroquois led 2-1 after two innings before Dunkirk scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth.

In the third, Gabe Valentine was hit by a pitch, Trippy singled and Zachary Zentz walked to load the bases. With two outs, a pair of runs scored on an error.

In the fourth, Jackson and Ganey were hit by pitches before a passed ball made it 4-2. Zentz then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Ganey.

But the Redhawks made it 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game in the bottom of the fifth before the Marauders’ winning seventh inning.

Trippy finished with two outs, including a double, while Piede also doubled for Dunkirk, which will travel to No. 3 Depew for a 5 p.m. Thursday semifinal.

CLASS C

PANTHERS ROLL PAST RANDOLPH

GOWANDA — Blake Herman went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored as No. 2 Gowanda blanked No. 10 Randolph 19-0 in five innings of Section VI Class C quarterfinal action.

Logan Ruff went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs; Carter Capozzi was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored; Drew Kota was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored; and Jayden Fish was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Panthers, who totaled 13 hits.

Herman threw three innings of no-hit ball with nine strikeouts before Kyan Austin threw the final two innings, allowing one hit while striking out one.

Bryson Pitts had the lone hit for the Cardinals, who advanced to the quarterfinals when No. 7 Cassadaga Valley forfeited last week.

Gowanda will host No. 3 Clymer/Sherman/Panama in a 5 p.m. Thursday semifinal. The Wolfpack beat No. 6 Maple Grove 1-0 in another Tuesday quarterfinal.

CATANESE TOSSES GEM

CLYMER — Tate Catanese allowed three hits and walked five while striking out 10 over 6 2/3 innings as No. 3 Clymer/Sherman/Panama shut out No. 6 Maple Grove 1-0 in a Section VI Class C quarterfinal.

The Wolfpack scored their lone run in the fourth inning when Carson White singled and eventually scored on an error.

Kolden McCall nearly matched Catanese pitch for pitch. The Red Dragons left-hander allowed four hits and walked four while striking out 14 on the mound. McCall also doubled, while Drew Oste and Camden Lombardo had singles for Maple Grove.

Catanese had two hits and Bryce Hinsdale had one for Clymer/Sherman/Panama, which will travel to No. 2 Gowanda for a 5 p.m. semifinal Thursday.

CLASS D

ELLICOTTVILLE ADVANCES

ELLICOTTVILLE — No. 4 Ellicottville took a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on over the final three innings to beat No. 5 Pine Valley 7-5 in a Section VI Class D quarterfinal.

Parker John singled and drove in a pair of runs, while five other players drove in runs for the Eagles, who will travel to No. 1 North Collins for a 5 p.m. semifinal Thursday.

Hunter Smith and Emmett Jacobson-Coolidge each had a pair of hits, including a double, for Ellicottville. Rylan Benjamin struck out 11 in a complete-game performance on the mound.

Trent Ivett was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored, while Terence White doubled and drove in a run for the Panthers. Dylan Green added a pair of singles and an RBI. Cameron Howard and Camryn Slade combined for nine strikeouts on the mound.
