Marauders up to No. 27 in Class A state rankings

Dunkirk moved from honorable mention to No. 27 in the Class A boys rankings, released by the New York State Sportswriters Association, after beating Fredonia and Falconer last week. The Marauders don’t play again until hosting Forestville next Tuesday.
Fredonia moved down eight spots to No. 29 after losing to Dunkirk and beating Salamanca last week. The Hillbillies will host Falconer tonight.
Also in Class A, where Section III’s Westhill is No. 1, Grand Island is No. 12 and St. Mary’s of Lancaster is No. 15 while Iroquois, Lewiston-Porter and South Park are all honorable mention.
Jamestown remained honorable mention in Class AAA after wins over Frontier and Williamsville North last week. The Red & Green, who beat Lancaster on Monday, host Class AA honorable-mention Orchard Park tonight.
Archbishop Stepinac of the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association is No. 1 in Class AAA while Health Sciences is No. 11 and Niagara Falls is honorable mention.

Randolph and Salamanca remained honorable mention in Class B.
The Cardinals beat Gowanda and Cassadaga Valley last week before topping Frewsburg on Monday. They will take on Chautauqua Lake on Sunday at SUNY Fredonia.
The Warriors beat Allegany-Limestone and Frewsburg, but lost to Fredonia last week. They also lost to Olean on Monday and will visit Pioneer on Monday.
Section I’s Woodlands is No. 1 in Class B while Tapestry is No. 8, Akron is No. 9, Medina is No. 13, and Middle Early College, MST Prep and Newfane are honorable mention.
In Class C, Ellicottville and Westfield remained honorable mention.

The Eagles lost to Forestville and beat Franklinville last week before beating Pine Valley on Monday. They will host Cattaraugus-Little Valley on Saturday.
The Wolverines beat Panama and Lake Shore, but lost to Clymer last week. They then beat Maple Grove on Monday. Westfield will visit Olean tonight and take on Erie First Christian Academy (Pa.) on Sunday at SUNY Fredonia.
Section II’s Berne-Knox-Westerlo is No. 1 in Class C while Wilson is No. 3 and Global Concepts is No. 10.
In Class D, Clymer remained No. 12, Sherman moved up to No. 17 from honorable mention, Forestville remained honorable mention and Panama moved down to honorable mention from No. 13.
The Pirates lost to Southwestern and beat Westfield last week before beating Brocton on Monday. They will host Maple Grove tonight.
The Wildcats beat Maple Grove, Forestville and Franklinville last week before topping Panama on Monday. They will take on Silver Creek at Jamestown Community College on Monday.
The Hornets beat Ellicottville and North Collins, but lost to Sherman last week. After beating Franklinville on Monday, they will travel to Maple Grove on Saturday.
The Panthers lost to Westfield and Chautauqua Lake, but beat Maple Grove last week. After losing to Sherman on Monday, they will take on Falconer at Jamestown Community College on Monday.
Section XI’s Bridgehampton is No. 1 in Class D.
In Class AA, Section V’s Penfield is No. 1 while St. Joe’s is No. 18, Canisius is No. 24, Nichols is No. 29, and St. Francis, Sweet Home and Williamsville North are honorable mention.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Frewsburg girls have yet to give the New York State Sportswriters Association any reason to drop them in the rankings.
The Bears remained No. 1 in Class C this week after wins over Mercyhurst Prep (Pa.) and Gowanda last week. On Tuesday, Frewsburg topped rival Randolph. The Bears, whose only loss this season is to Class B No. 1 Hornell of Section V, will travel to Portville tonight for another Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 matchup.
Randolph, which beat Gowanda, Silver Creek and Cassadaga Valley last week, remained an honorable mention in Class C after losing to the Bears on Tuesday and beating Franklinville on Thursday. The Cardinals travel to nonleague Jamestown on Saturday.
Westfield continued its hot start to the season with wins over Panama and Clymer last week. The 10-0 Wolverines then beat Maple Grove on Tuesday. They will not play against until next Tuesday at Pine Valley.
Wilson is No. 20 in Class C.
In Class B, Salamanca became a new honorable mention while Southwestern dropped from No. 16 to honorable mention.

Section X’s Chateaugay is No. 1 in Class D.
In Class AAA, Monsignor Scanlan of the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association is No. 1 while St. Mary’s of Lancaster is No. 13, West Seneca is No. 19 and Lancaster is No. 21.
In Class AA, Section V’s Pittsford Sutherland is No. 1. Orchard Park is No. 5 while Amherst, Cardinal O’Hara, North Tonawanda and Williamsville East are all honorable mention.
Section III’s Utica Notre Dame is No. 1 in Class A. Depew is No. 13 while Iroquois, Lake Shore and Lewiston-Porter are all honorable mention.
