Finalists announced for poster contest

“Prevention Works” was the theme for this year’s annual Prevention Works Alcohol Awareness Month Poster Contest.

Ninety-two students from Chautauqua County submitted posters, with a preliminary judging process narrowing the posters down to the top 12 dividing them into three categories by age group.

These twelve finalists are:

CATEGORY A

THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH GRADES

McKenzie Anderson, fifth grade, Bemus Point Elementary School

Delia McDonald Abraham, fourth grade, Dunkirk School #4

CATEGORY B

SIXTH, SEVENTH, EIGHTH GRADES

Kirsten Chase, seventh grade, Panama Central School

Tess Flikemma, seventh grade, Panama Central School

Seth Storey, eighth grade, Dunkirk Middle School

Atreyu Laska, eighth grade, home-schooled

CATEGORY C

NINTH-12th GRADES

Emily Payne, ninth grade, Falconer Central School

Penelope Laska, 11th grade, home-schooled

Mika Walters, 12th grade, Southwestern Central School

Raylynn Digirolamo, 12th grade, Southwestern Central School

The grand prize winner will be determined at a virtual poster contest ceremony on Thursday, June 11, at 3 p.m., live on Facebook at www.facebook.com/PreventionWorks.us. All 12 finalist posters will be featured before the grand-prize winner is announced.

Prevention Works Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest has been an annual competition for the past 19 years and is a way to get community youth involved in addressing issues that affect them. It also provides the community an opportunity to witness the creativity and optimism of youth as they depict positive alternatives to underage drinking.
