Salvatore W. “Sal” Gambino
WESTFIELD — Salvatore W. “Sal” Gambino, 70, of McClurg Street Westfield, N.Y., passed away peacefully Monday, April 26, 2021, at home with his loving family and canine companion “Nilla” by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.
Sal was born Feb. 16, 1951, in Westfield, N.Y. the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Cross) Gambino.
He went to school at Westfield Academy and Central School and was a graduate of the class of 1970. Following graduation, Sal went to work for Mogen David Wine Corporation in Westfield, N.Y., beginning as a laborer and retiring as production manager after 47 years of employment.
On Dec. 6, 1975 Sal married the love of his life, Susan Allessi, and together they raised two wonderful children.
Sal was a faithful member of the Westfield United Methodist Church.
When time permitted, he loved playing golf, taking long rides with his wife in his yellow sports car, vacationing at his favorite place, Disney World, and taking several cruises including Alaska.
Sal coached many youth sports for several years including little league, Babe Ruth, and girls’ softball. He loved playing softball both modified and slow pitch and bowled in a league for the Westfield Moose Lodge 118 team for which he was also a member of.
He was a “hard core” fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Cleveland Indians.
Most of all, Sal loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Sal is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Susan, their children, Kristy (Brent) Smith and Matthew (Dana) Gambino, and cherished grandchildren, Reagan and Garrett Smith and Parker and Dawsen Gambino. He is further survived by his brother Ronald Gambino and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his Grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Sal’s Life with an open house will be held at Brazil’s on Main, 7 East Main Street in Westfield, N.Y., on Sunday, May 2, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until 4 p.m. where family will be present. Due to Covid-19 regulations, masks must be worn, and occupancy will be monitored.
