Lady ‘Billies beat Maple Grove, 4-1

OBSERVER Staff Report

The Fredonia Lady ‘Billies varsity girls tennis team took down previously unbeaten Maple Grove on Wednesday in Fredonia with a 4-1 win over the Red Dragons.

Fredonia continued its winning streak of five straight matches without dropping a set in the singles matches, continuing what Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston called “smart, consistent games.”

The singles winners for Fredonia — Bernie Gens, Alicia Kluck and Selin Arnavut — all won in straight sets on Wednesday. Coach Johnston said all three “have been showing the benefits of practicing hard over the summer.”

The first doubles pair of Nicole Cosico and Leigha Hoisington won for Fredonia, while Sage Cresanti and Brianna Karges secured the only win of the day for Maple Grove, 7-6, 6-4.
