County gas prices high, still among lowest in state

When it comes to gas prices, it could actually be worse here in Chautauqua County. There are 12 counties with lower prices per gallon than Chautauqua County's $4.000 a gallon, according to the AAA: Cattaraugus at $3.861, Steuben at $3.982, Chemung at $3.991, Schuyler at $3.986, Seneca at $3.918, Cayuga at $3.974, Wyoming at $3.986, Genesee at $3.979, Allegany at $3.977, Niagara $3.958, and Yates and Tompkins, each at $3.99. Gowanda to pursue electric bus pilot program

GOWANDA — With New York State’s electric bus mandate still in place, the Gowanda Central School District is pursuing a pilot program to be ready for a future purchase of electric buses down the line. The district is preparing for the installation of electric bus chargers and design costs for the infrastructure to support two new electric buses. Council head barks on dog shelter mess

Dunkirk Councilman-at-Large Nick Weiser sought to clarify the Common Council’s role in the city dog shelter. Howling and yapping in Dunkirk about alleged City Hall mismanagement of the shelter reached a crescendo recently, after dog control officer Jennifer Sasso refused to renew her contract. Myers seeks lower revenue projection

Fredonia Fire Chief Joshua Myers thinks the village focuses too much on his ambulance revenue. Myers opened his 2026-27 budget presentation to village officials last week with a request: Stop expecting so much money.
