Thirty years ago — 1992 The “Westfield Skeleton Murder Case” which was recently filmed here, will air on Channels 2 and 12 as a segment of the “A Current Affair” television show. District Attorney John T. Ward Jr. was interviewed for the show earlier this week as were the family of the victim, Frank Carol of Painesville, Ohio, whose skeleton was found in the woods off Coon Road in the town of Westfield in 1981, but was not identified until two weeks ago. Thirty years ago — 1992 The former Steve’s Dining Car is being remodeled at its new location in the municipal parking lot next to the fire hall in Silver Creek. Project Coordinator Louis Pelletter said plans are under way to try to rebuild the dining car as it appeared in about 1939. There will be a door and windows in the front of the car. One of the changes from the original design will be a handicapped accessible entrance on the side. Thirty years ago — 1992 Dunkirk’s paid and volunteer firefighters and their supporters marched on city hall recently in protest of Mayor Margaret Wuerstle’s proposal to cut three firefighter jobs from next year’s budget. The rally, which drew more than 200 city residents, was held on the corner of Central Avenue and Third Street after which the protesters marched to city hall and conducted an informational picket prior to the common council meeting. Thirty years ago — 1992 Niagara Frontier Service Inc., the parent company of Tops Friendly Markets has taken over day-to-day operation of the Dunkirk store located on Vineyard Drive in the town from owners Jerry Trindel and Jane Eagan. Mr. Trindel and the local Tops store celebrated its 25th year of service to the community last December. The first Tops store opened at 258 East Main St., Fredonia. Thirty years ago — 1992 In a front page photo, Howard Sager of Hanover, a self-proclaimed weather prognosticator, strolls in the woods with his dog, Bingo. He bases his forecasts on his readings of nature’s signs. Howard, who will be 88 in December, said he was taught by an old Indian who would take him for overnight campouts in the woods with just “an old horse blanket under the stars.” His weather predictions have become popular among many local folk. About 60 students participated in the first performance of the year, the village’s annual Halloween parade on Oct. 31. Seventh and eight grade students comprise the unit.
