Submitted Photo Students in Kristen Foley’s government class at Silver Creek Central High School recently participated in a holiday project to encourage character-building. Focusing on motivation, leadership and a connection to their community, the class was matched with a local veteran family from the Adopt-A-Veteran-Family program through WNY Heroes Inc., a nonprofit organization. Students created fliers and decorated a showcase in the district lobby and also sponsored “$1 Hat Day” and “Faculty Dress Down Day” at the high school to help raise funds. The donations were used to purchase items from the family’s “wish list” with a goal of easing their financial burden and ensuring the family has an enjoyable holiday season. The students learned some valuable lessons while showing their appreciation and support for veterans and their families.
