SUNY Fredonia Commencement slated for Saturday

Commencement 2023 at the State University of New York at Fredonia will include ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, in the Steele Hall arena, combining undergraduate and master’s degree and advanced certificate graduates.

SUNY Fredonia will have live streaming video of both Commencement ceremonies. There will be a link to connect from the university’s home page on the day of Commencement at https://www.fredonia.edu

The complete program will be added to the Commencement website the day before the event.

Keynote speakers are Fredonia alumni including the Honorable James A.W. McLeod, ’71, former Buffalo City Court Judge, for the morning ceremony, and the Honorable Lynn T. (Bona) Ruda, ’07, ’09, mayor of the Village of Lancaster, N.Y., for the afternoon ceremony.

Senior Class President Hannah Barden will speak at both ceremonies and the Lanford Presidential Prize from the Oscar and Esther Lanford Endowment of the Fredonia College Foundation will be awarded to Alyssa Bump during the morning ceremony. College Council Chair Frank Pagano will offer greetings at both ceremonies.

Music groups performing include the Commencement Wind Ensemble and Commencement Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb, and the Fredonia Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Vernon Huff. Graduating seniors Kayla Sorensen will sing the national anthem at the morning ceremony, and Rebecca Hammack, at the afternoon ceremony.
