Leon Historical Society holds 1st business meeting of 2024

Leon Historical Society held its first business meeting of the year. The meeting was called to order by Klayton Peterson, President March 25. The Secretary’s Report from October, 2023 given by Secretary Lynnette McElmurray. The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer John Reukauf.

Membership dues are due. Cost is $10 per family. Please see John Reukauf, Treasurer.

Myra Johnston gave a report on the grant received from Cattaraugus County Bed Tax for advertising. The group was able to advertise the Holland Land Company Museum Exhibit that is taking place every Saturday from May 5 to Oct. 25.

An introduction presentation will be given on May 4 at 11 a.m. by Tina Scherman. Fred Milliman and Tina Scherman put this great fun and educational exhibit together. The group was also able to get some posters for the 154th Union Civil War Reunion taking place on July 13 at the 1836 Church.

The group is in the process of obtaining a Pomeroy Sign for the Pennyroyal Racetrack next year.

Debbie Milliman was a guest at the meeting and brought samples of the Hometown Heroes banners she has been working tirelessly to get ready for Memorial Day.

The steeple committee will meet and discuss the next step for the church steeple and report at the next meeting.

The group’s next meeting will be Monday April 29 at 6:30 p.m. If you are interested in history, like to have a great time with great people and would like to help make our communities shine, please attend.
