JCC digital video wins award

JAMESTOWN – “McSpacey Investigates,” a digital video exploring Banned Books Week at Jamestown Community College’s Hultquist Library, earned a gold Education Digital Marketing Award from the Higher Education Marketing Report.

The video, written and produced by Isaac McQuistion, JCC’s web content manager, was filmed by Vincent Gerace in 2012 while he was a student at JCC. Gerace will graduate from Full Sail University with a degree in film in May.

JCC reference librarian Cynthia McKane coordinated the students and library staff who were featured in the video, which examined the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week is sponsored annually by the American Library Association and other organizations to raise awareness about the freedom to read.

The video can be viewed at http://youtu.be/RUrdMstrqhQ.

JCC’s Hultquist Library has hosted a “read out” during Banned Books Week every fall during which faculty, staff and students read aloud from books that have been challenged as appropriate material for public libraries.

The Education Digital Marketing Awards recognize the best educational websites, digital content, electronic communications, mobile media, and social media. A national panel of industry specialists reviews each piece, judging creativity, marketing execution, message impact, technology application, and innovation content.
