Fredonia Opera House to present free recital

Submitted Photo The Opera House will hold a series of afternoon recitals on Friday from SUNY Fredonia students.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center will present a special free matinee recital Friday, April 1, at noon.

The Opera House has partnered with Ekstasis Duo’s Eliran Avni and Natasha Farny to present a series of afternoon recitals performed by talented students from the State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music.

Called Ekstasis 2.0, the curated salon series is a concert initiative created by the Duo as an extension of its own performances. The recitals feature selections from both the solo and chamber repertoire performed by the next generation of classical musicians in the inviting and intimate setting of the Opera House.

Friday’s recital will feature student performers Isaiah Brown, Zihan Chen, Josh Corwin, Che Dixon, Caeley Harsch, Grace Jang, Jackson Lasher, Ye Jin Lee, Soren Lesher, Mandy Lyman, Steven McChesney, Aaron and Boaz Meecham, Rayne Mescallado, Will Millecchia, Audrey Potter, Sam Valentin, Luka Vukelic, and Holly Zimmerman. They will be performing music by Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorak, Mendelssohn and Merlin.

Admission to the recital is free, although donations are gratefully accepted.

Opera House Executive Director Rick Davis notes that “masks are no longer required at Fredonia Opera House events. We do encourage patrons to wear masks while in the venue; and staff and volunteers will continue to be masked, but audiences are not required to do so.” He adds that the Opera House Board and staff are grateful for everyone’s cooperation during the previous masking requirement.

Opera House programming is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is a member-supported not-for-profit performing arts center with a mission to “present the performing arts for the benefit of our community and region … providing access to artistic diversity … and high quality programming at an affordable price.” It is located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia.
