Reiner’s ‘Stand By Me’ notes 40 years at Opera House
“Stand By Me” is showing Saturday and Tuesday.
The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of Director Rob Reiner’s classic “Stand By Me” on Saturday and Tuesday 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
Back in limited theatres for its 40th Anniversary. In a small, woodsy Oregon town, four friends (Wil Wheaton, Jerry O’Connell, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman) go in search of a missing teenager’s body. Wanting to be heroes in each other’s and their hometown’s eyes, they set out on an unforgettable two-day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery.
The Hartford Courant calls the film “a delightful, superbly made movie of substance.” The St. Louis Post-Dispatch calls it “as sweet, funny, and painfully true as any portrait of boyhood you are likely to see on film..” The Santa Cruz Sentinel calls it, “funny, touching, tightly-directed and richly evocative.” Movie Mom says it’s “a classic coming of age story with outstanding performances.” Rated R for language and some violence, “Stand By Me” runs one hour, 29 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
