“Oldtime River Boat To Ply Lake” was the headline of a story recounting a Mayville Village Board meeting on Oct. 9, 1973. Little did Post-Journal readers know when they picked up their paper that the then-unnamed replica steamboat’s whistle would become one of the most familiar sounds to anyone who would spend much time on Chautauqua Lake for the next five decades. Library plans reading remembrance SINCLAIRVILLE — The Sinclairville Free Library plans a poetry reading in memory of poet and teacher John Brantingham, who taught and published widely in the world, but locally at Chautauqua and JCC and also gave classes at our library. This will be a time to share our own original poetry and/or readings from Brantingham’s work.
